Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew
His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew
On the Occasion of the 30th Anniversary of “Leadership 100”
Your Eminence and beloved brother in Christ Archbishop Demetrios of America,
Esteemed members of the Executive Committee,
Distinguished members of Leadership 100,
It is a sincere pleasure to greet all of you as you gather in Naples, Florida, in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Leadership 100,” the eminent endowment fund of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, which was recently renamed in honor of Archbishop Iakovos, of blessed memory.
On this occasion of joyful celebration and honorable commemoration, it is only fitting and right to recall the visionary ministry of the late Archbishop Iakovos, whose insight and foresight led to the creation of this unparalleled support for the services and programs of our Church in the United States, which over the last three decades has proved instrumental in sustaining and encouraging such organizations as the International Orthodox Christian Charities, the Orthodox Christian Mission Center, Hellenic College and Holy Cross School of Theology, as well as many other ministries and ministers, clergy and laity, while generously addressing various critical situations in America and Greece. May the memory of this inspired Hierarch be eternal!
This 30th anniversary also coincides with the 15th anniversary since the blessed election and enthronement of your current spiritual father, Archbishop Demetrios, whose dedicated service and spiritual ministry have admirably expanded the scope of Leadership 100 and exponentially multiplied its membership. His Eminence has perceived and embraced the vital role of this endowment fund as the principal way of advancing Orthodoxy and Hellenism in America. May God grant him many years!
Finally, we would like to express our gratitude for and bless the exemplary commitment and selfless labor of all those involved in administrating and coordinating as well as revealing and realizing the outstanding work of Leadership 100 – from its chairman, Mr. Charles Cotros, to its executive director, Ms. Paulette Poulos; from the founding members, to the executive committee; from its board of trustees to its hundreds of members, partners, and junior partners. All of you, beloved children in the Lord, are the precious stones with which God has built, decorated, and edified His Church for the glory of God and the benefit of His faithful in the United States of America.
What Leadership 100 has accomplished over the last thirty years is, of course, far more than what can be measured in material support and monetary value.
Rather, it demonstrates depth of heart and breadth of perspective. Indeed, dear friends, what you have achieved in the last three decades has a more lasting impact than simply on your Archdiocese. For it has also supported needful circumstances beyond America. All of this gives us great cause for delight and pride at the Great Church of Christ, the Mother Church of Constantinople, which takes this opportunity to concelebrate with you and congratulate you on this important milestone and anniversary. May you continue to grow and prosper outwardly and spiritually for many years to come!
We wish all of you, your families and friends, the generous grace and abundant mercy of God. God bless you!
At the Ecumenical Patriarchate, January 1, 2014
Your fervent supplicant before God,
Archbishop of Constantinople-New Rome,
and Ecumenical Patriarch
