Elena Arida

Elena Arida, granddaughter of long-time Leadership 100 members Louis and Helen Nicozisis, was awarded a Bronze Medal by the United States Congressional Award Board of Directors for her service to the community and her personal development. A Westfield, New Jersey High School junior, Arida is the daughter of Jeannie and Kenneth Arida. In addition to the Bronze Medal, Arida also earned the Congressional Award Bronze and Silver certificates.

The Congressional Award, which is Congress’s first and only award specifically for youth, was established in 1979 to recognize young Americans for their “initiative, service and achievement.” Arida met and exceeded the requirements set by the Award, which include personal development, voluntary public service, physical activity and exploration. She achieved 100 hours of voluntary public service, 50 hours of personal development, more than 50 hours of physical fitness and an overnight exploration/expedition totaling 200 minimum hours. Arida devoted her voluntary public service to the 2012 Golden Door International Film Festival in Jersey City, in addition to other community service.
